The President and Board Members of EPDK went on a 3-day journey to Southeast Anatolia accompanied by Erdem Holding Vice Chairman Mr. M. Fatih Erdem and Board Member Mr. Seyfi Aras. The visit was organized with the objective of analyzing and gathering on-site information about the current energy investments in the region.

The President and Board Members of the Energy Market Regulatory Board visited the cities of Batman, Mardin, Şanlıurfa and Adıyaman with the objective of gathering on-site information about the current energy investments and doing research in the region. The committee, accompanied by Erdem Holding Vice Chairman Mr. M. Fatih Erdem and Board Member Mr. Seyfi Aras, started its 3-day program from the city of Batman, first visiting Hasankeyf, the location of the Ilısu project. Moving on to the city of Mardin, they visited the districts of Savur, Midyat and Nusaybin, gathering information also about the region’s rich history and culture. Following Mardin, the EPDK Commitee and Erdem Holding executives met with the Director of GAP (Southeast Anatolia Project) Regional Development Administration Mr. Sadrettin Karahocagil in the city of Şanlıurfa and discussed the developments concerning the project.

At the final leg of the journey the President, Committee Members and Erdem Holding executives traveled to Adıyaman and conducted comprehensive research work on the Atatürk Dam. The construction of the dam had been initiated in 1983 within the scope of the GAP Project by an all-Turkish team of workers and engineers and completed in 1992, when the dam was put into service. It is the largest dam in Turkey and in Europe. Following various informatory meetings held with executives, the committee left the region. Erdem Holding Vice Chairman Mr. M. Fatih Erdem, who made a statement on his return, said that the Erdem family placed much importance to the development of and the investments in the Southeast Anatolian Region and that the objective of the journey had been to draw the attention of EPDK to the region, adding that the meetings and the journey have been very beneficial and productive.
