A First in Turkey...from Siemens

Siemens Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. started up a new investment to be built on a land tract of 150.000 thousand square meters in Gebze Organized Industrial Zone in line with its investment plans in Turkey. Being one of the most innovative facilities in Europe, Siemens Gebze facilities are nominated for the first LEED Gold (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certificate in Turkey; not only do those facilities consume the natural energy resources in a very efficient way but also they create a healthy environment for their employees and offer certain features that would save energy costs significantly.

The brand new Siemens Gebze facility was opened in a ceremony honored by Mr. Hilmi Guler, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Mr. Peter Löscher, Siemens AG CEO, Mr. Wolfgang Dehen, the CEO of Siemens AG Energy Sector and Mr. Huseyin Gelis, the General Manager of Siemens A.S.

Mr. Mehmet Rauf Yalgı, the High Civil Engineer, is like a successful maestro; he is both the Technical Manager of YTY Ins Ltd and the Project Manager for Siemens Gebze Plant. He comments on LEED “Green Building Certificate”: “LEED is a green building evaluation program and is a voluntary standard; it is granted by the US Green Building Council. The said rating is based on 6 categories, each one with a different scoring weight:

1. Sustainable Areas
2. Water Efficiency
3. Energy and Atmosphere
4. Materials and Resources
5. Interior Space Quality
6. Design Innovations

“Besides, there are seven conditions that should be strictly met before, during and after the construction works to be eligible to the certificate. All of them are intended to preserve the environment and natural resources. YTY has done more than its share thanks to its professional team and environmentally-respectful approach. In a green plant, even the minutest details are given due consideration in order to achieve energy saving, to inflict minimal harm to the environment and to use recyclable natural materials.”
